The man behind the most famous social network: Facebook

We are talking about the one and only Mark Zuckerberg. He was born on the May 14, 1984. He is currently 30 years old and he is one among the founders of Facebook, the most famous social network. His profit in 2013, according to a survey was: $16.8 billion dollars.

In his early days:

He already started writing about software and started using a computer when he was in middle school. In his early age itself, he had a genius teacher with whom he was learning about a basic programming known as Atari. Reaching high school, he was in computer programming classes. At this very age, he did remarkable thing which is he built a program known as Zucknet where he was communication with his dad on a computer. Moreover, he was building up computer games by getting ideas from his friends.

Reached college:

At this stage, he was called as a computer genius because of all the things he was doing in high school. Eventually, he again wrote another program which was called as ‘coursematch’ which gave the possibility of deciding upon courses which students wanted to undertake.

In his college, they had books by the name of “Facebooks”. In the due time, Mark went to the construction of another website where he included the pictures of two guys and two girls. The website was all about choosing who is hotter. In only one weekend, the popularity of that website went so high that it was known as “Facemash”. However, it was shut down after because students kept on going on it. Also, some students disagreed upon it because their pictures were being used.

Now is the time for Facebook:

Reaching 2004, he started working on his new website which he names as “The Facebook”. Several of the students were of great help in this project. At the start, the site was only for use in Harvard, but eventually, it was extended to other universities as well. It is in 2005 that this very website was known as “Facebook”. Anyone over the age of 13 could use it. Arriving in 2007, 100,000 businesses listed their companies on it. By 2011, it reached the phones with over 350 million users and had millions of pictures uploaded.

The Initial Public Offering:

On May 18, 2912, Facebook made its IPO. 421 million shares were tendered to private investors at $38 only. A net value of $104 billion was recorded and till now it is still the biggest ongoing business. A lot of investors wanted to put their hands on it. However, two weeks after, the shares fell considerably to $27.72. And later it was till $19. Now it is at $41.

Few facts:

  • Mark Zuckerberg is among the 100 wealthiest men in the world according to Time Magazine in 2010.
  • He is Jewish and has been listed as the most influential Jews.
  • He is the CEO of Facebook till now.
